Join Preservation Georgetown for The Lives Behind the Landmarks, a fascinating presentation by local historian and cemetery researcher Laura Klein Plunkett.

Laura volunteers with the Williamson County Historical Commission Cemetery Restoration Volunteers, where she researches and documents historic county cemeteries in support of Texas Historical Commission Cemetery Designations. Through her work, she uncovers the stories of the people and families whose lives are woven into the history of Williamson County.

Her own background is equally interesting. Laura’s professional career was in transportation and logistics management, and she holds degrees in library science, graphic arts and design, and business administration. With decades of community volunteer service—including appointments to numerous city boards and commissions—she also writes the recurring “What Remains” column for the Williamson County Sun.

During this special presentation, Laura will take us behind the landmarks to explore how abandoned cemeteries can be rescued from neglect and development—and how historical research can reveal remarkable connections between a forgotten cemetery, a Georgetown landmark, and the families who helped shape our community.

Come discover the stories that remain—and the lives behind the landmarks.
