In celebration of the holiday and of heritage, Norwegian Country Christmas Tour ushers in the season with a reflection on Clifton’s rich Scandinavian origin and all the joy of Christmas. On Saturday, December 7th, tourists can acquire free copies of an event guidebook at local shops, purchase tickets at the Chamber of Commerce, and take a self-guided tour of a wide variety of sites and interests. Travel through the graceful valleys tucked within limestone cliffs to discover where Norwegian immigrants, including Cleng Peerson, “the Father of Norwegian Immigration,” settled in 1854; and explore early homes and churches bedecked in holiday splendor. Hosts and hostesses happily share stories of settlers, traditions, and of developing and sustaining this eclectic community.
