From his humble beginnings as a little boy selling tamales from a push cart, to the owner of one of Austin's most popular and beloved restaurants, Matt's El Rancho is an Austin institution. Matt's has served celebrities - both local and national - including President Lyndon Baines Johnson who was known to send a jet to pick up and deliver some of his favorite dishes.

The family restaurant still adheres to the same made-from-scratch cooking philosophy that made them famous - fresh ingredients. According to the founding family, many items found in almost any Tex-Mex restaurant, were originally introduced by Matt's El Rancho. Some of the most popular dishes include fresh lime juice margaritas, Mexican seafood dishes, and the famous (and tasty!) Bob Armstrong dip.

Matt's El Rancho was designated as a Texas Treasure Business in 2017.
