As you approach Hillsboro, imagine how different it would look if the courthouse tower weren’t there. That was exactly the scene the local citizens beheld in 1993 after a truly catastrophic electrical fire gutted their beloved courthouse on New Year’s Day.

Six years and $9 million dollars later, the icon that locates Hillsboro within the landscape of Texas rose again… and many other Texas towns, inspired by the spirit of Hillsboro, recommitted to saving their architectural icons—leading to the creation of the Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program.
