GoldenLight Cantina 2906 SW 6th Ave Amarillo, TX 79106 Website
The GoldenLight Cantina in Amarillo, Texas, traces its roots to the GoldenLight Café, established in 1946 along historic Route 66. What began as a small burger stand grew into a long standing community gathering place and, with the addition of the cantina in 1996, evolved into one of Amarillo’s most recognized live music venues.
Founded by Chester “Pop” Ray and his family, the GoldenLight Café has operated continuously in the same location since 1946, making it one of the oldest restaurants in Amarillo and a lasting fixture of Route 66 culture. Generations of locals and travelers have passed through its doors, drawn by its history and sense of place.
Throughout its history, the GoldenLight has served as more than a restaurant. It has been a gathering place for friends, families, and regular patrons, maintaining a strong sense of community across decades of ownership while preserving its welcoming, informal atmosphere.
In 1996, the addition of the GoldenLight Cantina transformed the site into a live music destination. The venue expanded its role from a local café to a space where music, food, and community intersect, reflecting the evolving cultural landscape of Amarillo.
Today, the GoldenLight Cantina is known for hosting a wide range of artists, from local performers to nationally recognized acts such as Joe Ely, Cross Canadian Ragweed, and Shinyribs. With its laid back atmosphere and commitment to live performance, the venue continues to play an important role in supporting Texas music and emerging talent.
