Zoom Talk “Confederates and Comancheros: Skullduggery and Double Dealing in the Texas-New

September 24, 2024

Brazos Trail Region

On Tuesday, September 24 at noon, author and historian James Bailey Blackshear will discuss his book via zoom "Confederates and Comancheros". Focusing on the Texas-New Mexico borderlands in the 1860s and 1870s, his book deftly weaves a complex tale of Texan overreach and New Mexican resistance, explores cattle drives and cattle rustling, and details shady government contracts and bloody frontier justice. Peopled with Confederate and Union soldiers, Comanches and Comancheros, Texas cattlemen and New Mexican merchants, opportunistic Indian agents and Anglo arms dealers, his talk will illustrate how central these contested borderlands were to the history of the American West.
