A special screening of the award-winning film La Cocina will take place at Laredo College Visual and Performing Arts Center on October 30, 2024 at 6pm. This event promises a unique experience to watch the movie ahead of the national release, with the opportunity to enjoy a post-screening dialogue with actress Anna Diaz, filmmaker and educator Marcela Morán, and local advocate Sister Rosemary Welsh. La Cocina captures the intense pace of a bustling Times Square restaurant, The Grill. When money mysteriously vanishes from the cash register, suspicion quickly falls on Pedro (Raúl Briones), an undocumented cook with dreams of a better life. His relationship with Julia (Rooney Mara), an American waitress battling her own inner conflicts, takes a turn when a shocking revelation forces Pedro toward a decision that could bring down the entire restaurant. Blending sharp comedy and poignant drama, La Cocina captures the invisible lives of the people who keep America’s kitchens running, all while exploring the personal and systemic struggles of those in pursuit of the elusive American Dream.
