Salado Historical Society Annual Meeting featuring 'The Tonkawa Tribe with Bob O'Dell'
November 2, 2026
There is something special about discovering the stories of those who came before us, especially when those stories unfolded right here in Central Texas. Join the Salado Historical Society for its annual Chili Potluck and Membership Drive, featuring special guest speaker Bob O’Dell, writer and producer of the upcoming documentary Tonkawa: They All Stay Together.
In his presentation, “The Tonkawa Tribe: What I Wish I Knew a Lot Earlier,” O’Dell draws on years of research, personal relationships, and filmmaking to share fascinating discoveries about the Tonkawa people and their deep connections to the Brazos Trail region. As Tonkawa Tribe President Russell Martin puts it, “Nobody knows our history or our tribe better than Bob.”
The evening is also a chance to learn how the Salado Historical Society preserves and shares Salado’s rich heritage, and how you can be part of that mission. Everyone is welcome! Members are asked to bring a favorite side dish or dessert to share. Visitors and future members just need to bring their curiosity and love of history.
