The Grace Heritage Center is one of Georgetown’s most enduring historic landmarks, offering visitors a unique opportunity to experience over a century of architectural and community history.

Originally constructed in 1881 as Grace Episcopal Church, this Carpenter Gothic chapel with its distinctive Norman-style tower has served the Georgetown community for more than 140 years. Remarkably, the structure has been relocated twice—first in 1955 to East University Avenue, and again in 1991 when it was returned to downtown Georgetown and placed at its current site in Founders Memorial Park.

Today, the building stands as a testament to the community’s commitment to preservation. Through a partnership between the City of Georgetown and Preservation Georgetown (formerly the Georgetown Heritage Society), the chapel was carefully restored and adapted for public use while maintaining its historic character.

Visitors can explore original features such as the altar, stained glass windows dating to 1932, and exposed scissor trusses, along with subtle architectural changes that reflect the building’s evolution over time. The restored bell tower—returned to its original height based on archival research—remains a defining feature of the structure.

Now serving as both a public gathering space and the home of Preservation Georgetown, the Grace Heritage Center continues its legacy as a place of community connection and shared history.
