Brenham Heritage Museum: Crossroads Speaker Series (Marty Merritt)
November 19, 2024
Please join us at the Brenham Heritage Museum Bus Depot and Gallery on Tuesday, November 19th, 2024 from 5:30-6:30 pm, for a fascinating lecture by architectural historian and Houston Mod board member, Marty Merritt. The topic of his discussion will be: “Architect Travis Broesche.”
Few Brenhamites may have heard of Architect Travis Broesche, but many have seen his work. Marty will shed light on this lesser-known architect, who began his practice of architecture in Brenham, designing several buildings funded by the Public Works Administration, including the Washington County Courthouse. Other important Broesche projects include Brenham City Hall, Blue Bell Creamery offices and Visitor’s Center (and other Blue Bell facilities throughout Texas and neighboring states), Trinity Medical Center, the remodeling and expansion of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, and Kruse Memorial Lutheran Village, phases 1 and 2. Mr. Broesche’s practice eventually relocated to Houston and focused on churches and schools throughout Texas before he retired and returned to Brenham in the 1970s.
Houston Mod is a non-profit organization which promotes knowledge and appreciation of modern architecture in Houston and Texas, and Marty is the author of Houston Mod publication ‘After Alden: Mid-Century Architecture’ in Brazosport, Texas.
