in 1905, after a railroad construction worker was killed in an accident while rebuilding tracks near the town of White Deer, the need for a burial ground arose. Five acres were set aside that became the White Deer Cemetery. The White Deer Cemetery Association was formed in March 1923. At that time Frederic De P. Foster, acting as a representative of the White Deer Land Company, sold the five-acre cemetery to the association trustees for the sum of one dollar.

Burials include veterans of the Civil War, World Wars I and II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Today, the White Deer Cemetery serves as a reminder of the community’s early pioneers, while still meeting the needs of the people of White Deer and the surrounding area. It was designated a Historic Texas Cemetery in 1909 and received an official Texas historical marker in 1911.
