The Heritage Museum at Falfurrias
At 25 years old, Edward C. Lasater entered the Texas cattle industry as a beneficiary of, rather than participant in, the great cattle drives up the Chisholm Trail. His 1895 land purchase in Falfurrias would grow to 350,000 acres of South Texas land, but his main interest was in dairy cows – not beef cattle. His sweet cream butter – later named Falfurrias Butter (still available in Texas, though produced by a different company) – was popular throughout Texas and even distributed to the East Coast, making him one of the most accomplished cattlemen of his time.
Located along one of the many feeder routes of the Chisholm Trail, the Heritage Museum tells the story of Lasater and other influential residents from the region. The museum preserves the frontier history of the county through stories, photos, maps, and artifacts – including more than 100 pairs of boots worn by Texas Rangers as they kept the peace throughout the Lone Star State.
