Sundance Square and Downtown Fort Worth
Lakes Trail Region
Fort Worth earned its nickname of “Cowtown” as one of the busiest crossing points for cattle trails to northern markets. Later, it became a market for cattle itself. The mural on the side of the Jett Building in Sundance Square looks like a 3D sculpture – but it’s really a large, realist painting of two cowboys driving a herd of longhorn cattle. Historical markers are placed several places throughout downtown Fort Worth, commemorating the cattle drive era, including the Eastern Cattle Trail, Hell’s Half Acre, Thistle Hill, and a general history of Fort Worth – “Where the West Begins.”
