Roanoke's Visitor Center and Museum has found a home in the old Rock Building, a place with a colorful past, indeed. In the 1880s, the popular Silver Spur Saloon and dance hall was infamous for the upstairs brothel that provided “entertainment” for the “gentlemen.” Today, the beautifully restored building showcases memorabilia from Roanoke’s varied and treasured past. Exhibits include stories of the Texas & Pacific Railroad that was instrumental in the founding of Roanoke, and ancient fossils from the time when mammoths and mastadons roamed the prairies.
