In late August of 1874, provisions for the company under the command of Col. Nelson Miles began to run dangerously low. Capt. Wyllys Lyman was dispatched with 36 wagons to resupply the unit. On the way back, the wagon train encountered a group of Kiowas, beginning a five-day siege that came to be known as the “Battle of Lyman’s Wagon Train.” Play the audio track on this page to learn what happened.
