Standing watch over the Laguna Madre, the Port Isabel Lighthouse guided ships through a crucial Gulf Coast harbor. While no records show Buffalo Soldiers were stationed at the lighthouse itself, the port’s maritime connections linked Texas to military posts along the coast and inland. African American regiments moving between duty stations—particularly during times of conflict—may have traveled through Port Isabel on their way to or from overseas deployment, reinforcing the role of coastal infrastructure in broader military operations.
