McKinney Falls State Park

The lands around McKinney Falls State Park, near Austin,. were mostly settled in the days of the Buffalo Soldiers but still benefited from the United States Army's presence in the late 19th century. As Austin grew, Buffalo Soldiers traveling north from San Antonio or moving out to western forts might have passed through Travis County. Their movement through the area was part of their regular duties, which included traveling between posts, going on leave, or escorting supplies and personnel.
