Luckenbach General Store

Opened as a trading post in 1849 by German settlers in central Texas, this iconic general store in the sleepy hamlet of Luckenbach sells "everything from the cradle to the grave, including coffins and cowbells," or so reads the ad in a German-language newspaper from 1902. Nowadays the combination bar and general store (and once upon a time, post office) is as much a pilgrimage site as it is a one-stop shop for t-shirts and bumper stickers, although they still claim they've got a coffin or two in their inventory.
