In 1954, Vivian and Bill Young opened a clothing manufacturing company called Whitesboro Manufacturing Co., producing dresses and blouses for women. Their designs were carried by retailers including Neiman Marcus, Herman Marcus, Jeanie Co., Donovan Galvani, and many others.

In 1958, the Youngs’ daughter, Rita Young Lovejoy, and her husband, Hank, joined the business. As fashions and consumer tastes evolved, so did the company. In 1982, Vivian and Bill passed the business to their daughter and son-in-law who renamed it Lovejoy Cutting Room and, later, Lovejoys on Main.

Although the company ceased manufacturing clothing, it continued to offer women’s apparel while expanding its selection to include home décor and children’s toys as additional generations of the family joined the business. In 2001, Lovejoys added a small restaurant, an old-fashioned soda fountain, and bakery, transforming the store into a destination that blends shopping, dining and community gathering space.
