Some towns that sprung up along the Chisholm Trail no longer exist. Such is the case with Kimball Bend, a community established in the mid-1850s – one of Bosque County’s first towns. Until the 1870s, many droving teams along the trail crossed the Brazos here. Today, all that remains of the town are a few ruins – viewable to visitors of Kimball Bend Park, operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Visitors not interested in staying overnight at the campground are welcome to come in briefly to view the ruins and the Chisholm Trail monument.

Across Lake Whitney, just off Highway 174, a marker commemorates the community that once existed here, and the cattle drives that built it.
