CLASSICAL CAROUSEL

Giddings, a Texas Brazos Trail city, lists Firemen’s Park as one of many reasons to consider the region’s “hometown hospitality”. The park, a fifty-acre site available for parties, reunions, cook-outs, tournament sports, and entertainment, hosts scheduled events along with impromptu afternoon picnics by locals. The manicured grounds offer a covered rodeo arena, show barns, dance pavilion, food court, entertainment stages, a rental hall, BBQ pits, and an RV park. It’s also home to an active classic wooden carousel, built in 1915 and acquired in 1931 when a carnival couldn’t pay its bills. The working carousel features twenty-nine jumping horses in two rows and is listed with the National Carousel Association. The park also provides facilities for annual events including the Lee County Fair and Rodeo. This classic rural celebration features rodeo events, softball tournaments, a mechanical bull, BBQ and Noodle cook-offs, live music, carnival rides, a “Bier Garten” for refreshments, and Lee County’s Lone Star version of “American Idol”, complete with a variety of regional acts and audience voting
