In recognition of Cleng Peerson's role as the "Father of Norwegian Immigration to America," FM 219, which runs between Clifton and Cranfills Gap, was officially renamed the Cleng Peerson Memorial Highway on October 20, 1975. Peerson spent the final 15 years of his life in the Clifton/Norse area and is buried at the Norse Cemetery, located at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. This dedication honors his lasting legacy in the region.
The highway forms the southern boundary of the Norse Historic District.
