Christie's Seafood & Steaks began with a simple dream and a seafood stand on the Gulf. In 1917, Greek immigrant Theodore Christie opened a humble fish stand in Galveston, serving the day's fresh catch with pride. In 1939, he brought that vision to Houston, establishing Christie's as a destination for quality seafood and warm hospitality, with locations across the city, including the well-known South Main site.

In 1965, Theodore met a young Greek immigrant, James Priovolos. Recognizing his dedication and passion, Theodore made a life-changing offer: he would sell him the restaurant under one condition-that James carry on the Christie name. Having already Americanized his own name, Theodore wanted the legacy to live on. James accepted, becoming James Christie and continuing the tradition.

By 1968, the Westheimer location was established, becoming the heart of the restaurant and a Houston landmark. Today, Christie's remains, proudly operated by James Christie's wife and children. More than a century later, the same commitment to fresh seafood, family values, and genuine hospitality continues-proving that some traditions are simply too meaningful to fade.

Christie's Seafood & Steaks Restaurant was designated a Texas Treasure Business in 2026.
