Boots Burgers, owned by David Mooney, has been serving the community since 1968 when his father, Boots, opened the burger joint from the back of his house. Operating from the same location, few restaurants like Boots exist today, or rather, are allowed to.
The place virtually runs the same as it did back then: cash only, no frills, and no fries. Customers can get chips and a can of soda out of Boots' old vending machine. What makes Boots Burgers so good? Mooney says it's the cast iron cooktop that was used by his father.
Boots Burgers was designated a Texas Treasure Business in 2023.
