Opened in 1926, San Antonio’s Aztec Theatre is a spectacular example of the lavish movie palaces that captivated audiences during the 1920s. Its richly decorated interior features colorful murals, sculptures, columns, and Mesoamerican-inspired details, along with a massive two-ton chandelier installed in 1929. After decades as a movie theater and a period of closure, the Aztec found new life as a live entertainment venue. Today, this downtown landmark welcomes audiences for concerts, comedy, and other performances just steps from the San Antonio River Walk.
