Get to Know Denton

Downtown Denton—like plenty of America’s downtowns—entered a state of decline during the latter part of the 20th century as our car-based society opted for the suburbs and strip centers. However, halfway through the 20th century, the city wanted a more modern identity, so for their city hall design, they hired the “Father of Texas Modernism”—O’Neil Ford, who happened to live in Denton.

Since then, the city has mounted 350 revitalization projects in 26 years—all with attention to preserving the historic core of the community.
