The Museum of South Texas History opens a new exhibit spotlighting the people, places and policies that shaped public education in the Rio Grande Valley.

The exhibit highlights landmark court cases, bilingual education pioneers, the student experience in higher education, and the legacy of Congressman Rubén Hinojosa. It connects local history to national conversations about equity and inclusion in schools.

The exhibit explores legal battles such as Del Rio v. Salvatierra and Plyler v. Doe, the work of early bilingual teachers and escuelitas, and the Valley’s evolving college experience and cultural identity. Visitors will also see Congressman Rubén Hinojosa’s recreated congressional desk alongside artifacts like bilingual alphabet trays, a 1930s high school bell, and historic diplomas.

The exhibit is presented by H-E-B.
