Walk the Ranchería Grande is a National Park Service registered and signed trail through private land. Reservations are required and can be made at the Cedar Hill Nature Preserve website.
The trail is a retracement of a small part of El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail that passes through a portion of the Ranchería Grande area. This path was used by Native Americans for hundreds of years, and later followed by Spanish Colonials and Eastern settlers. Your walk will lead you to the top of a hill that research has shown to be part of an area periodically lived in by 23 tribes over the last 12,000 years named Ranchería Grande!
The trail is a 2.2-mile loop of moderate difficulty. You will be on pleasant woodland paths, so watch out for holes, sticks, snakes, and wildlife. The middle segment of the route is through a working cattle ranch. If cows are present, do not approach them.
