Waco Suspension Bridge
Brazos Trail Region
Although the bridge was closed to vehicular traffic in 1971, the commercial development on the south side of the river provides evidence of the critical part it played in the development of Waco. The bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
A hotel and convention center now blocks the original connection between Waco and the river, so first head south past City Hall (site of the original county courthouse and town square) to Franklin Street before turning right to reconnect with Austin Avenue.
