The 1851 Schmitz Hotel has been modified several times, but in its current configuration, broad porches protect its front façade from the intense Texas sun. Although the building has served many functions over its 160-year history, today it has returned to its hospitality roots and is currently a bed and breakfast.
It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
