The Salt Lick BBQ
The Salt Lick BBQ got its start back in 1967 when Thurman Roberts sought a way to make a life for his family in Driftwood. Thurman’s barbecue was well known at family reunions so he began selling it to paying customers, selling out earlier and earlier each weekend.
Thurman inherited his barbecue prowess from his great grandmother Bettie Howard who slow cooked barbecue over open coals on a wagon train trip from Mississippi to Texas in the 1860s.
Current owner Scott Roberts keeps the family tradition alive by serving delicious barbecue to thousands of hungry customers every week.
The Salt Lick BBQ was designated a Texas Treasure Business in 2022.
