The Co-ed Shop was opened in 1960 by Maude Farris in a two-story house--Maude took the first floor and the second floor was a rental apartment. The house was located right next to the Texas Theatre on Crawford St. The house was torn down and replaced by a brick infill building. Around 1972, Maude bought the building at 203 W. Main, remodeled the building and moved her women's fashion and accessory store to a new home. They have operated at that location ever since. In 1991, Linda Foster (Maude's daughter) took over the business. It has been in the Farris/Foster Family continually and has always been a women-owned and operated business.
