Texas Southern University
One of the nation’s largest historic black universities, Texas Southern University’s notable alumni include U.S. Congressman George “Micky” Leland and U.S. Congresswoman Barbara Jordan, the first African American woman from the South to be elected to Congress.
The TSU campus provides several opportunities for heritage travelers: the University Museum, which houses an interesting and exciting collection of art created by African and African American artists; the Robert J. Terry Library Special Collections, which maintains the Barbara Jordan Papers archive; and the Hannah Hall Murals, a collection of murals— inspired by the community murals of Diego Rivera—current and former TSU students painted on and within TSU buildings.
