Tenth Street Historic District
Lakes Trail Region
This is one of the few remaining freedmen's towns in the South that still retains a significant amount of its original construction. Look for the smaller shotgun houses—the homes have rectangular floor plans with adjoining rooms, rather than hallways—and their larger counterparts, the double shotgun and camelback houses. Most of these dwellings were built prior to World War II, and a few date to the 1890s.
