Lakes Trail Region
One of the most remarkable – and least known – stories of the Great War is that of the American Indian code-talkers. Several Choctaw servicemen, who were trained at Camp Bowie in Texas, used their language to stump the German code-breakers and help the United States win the communications war.
The Tarrant County Archives features rotating exhibits in addition to its expansive collection of archived materials. In the nearby Fort Worth Stockyards, the Choctaw code-talkers are honored in the Texas Trail of Fame with a marker recognizing their heroic service.
