Stanzel Model Aircraft Museum
TOP-FLIGHT FUN!
Everyone’s heard of the Wright Brothers. But have you heard of the Texas brothers who also had lofty ideas about flight and airplanes? Meet the Stanzel Brothers from Schulenberg, designers and manufacturers of some of the most popular 20th century model airplane kits in the world. You can learn all about the Stanzels and their amazing flying machines at the Stanzel Model Aircraft Museum located in Schulenberg. Tour the Main Museum where exhibits include static and interactive displays exploring the Stanzel’s love of flight. Next door, enter the Factory Wing and learn about the development and manufacturing of model aircraft during the modern mid-century, the peak period of Stanzel production and a dramatic era of aviation and rocket technology evolution. Then cross the museum complex grounds to the Stanzel family homestead where Grandma and Grandpa Stanzel kept a tidy, turn-of-the-century home. The restored farmhouse, complete with late-1800’s furnishings, served as the first headquarters of the Victor Stanzel Company. Today, the Stanzel Family Foundation awards scholarships to Schulenburg and Weimar students and a lively online exchange of Stanzel vintage model planes continues to keep these remarkable scaled-down aircraft flying.
