Sabine Pass Battleground preserves the site of a key Civil War victory for Confederate forces, where a small garrison repelled a much larger Union invasion. Decades later, during the post–Civil War frontier period, Buffalo Soldiers served at posts across Texas, some of which relied on ports like Sabine Pass for supplies and troop movement. While their service did not directly connect to the 1863 battle, their presence in the region underscores the changing nature of military planning and defense along Texas’s Gulf Coast.
