Ray Roberts Lake State Park
The lands around today's Ray Roberts Lake State Park in North Texas were important for frontier defense efforts involving Buffalo Soldiers in the late 1800s. Units of the 9th and 10th Cavalry and 24th Infantry from Fort Richardson and Fort Sill often patrolled this area south of the Red River, working to stop Kiowa and Comanche raids and protect settlers and travel routes. When you are having fun on the lake or trails at the park, remember the soldiers who helped make these North Texas prairies and Cross Timbers safe for everyone. Just an hour north of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, Ray Roberts Lake State Park offers a calm setting for hiking, biking, backpacking, and water sports.
