Purtis Creek State Park is located in a region that was connected to the rest of the state by the El Camino Real de los Tejas. Buffalo Soldiers used this historic road for travel. The military's use of the El Camino Real was crucial, allowing them to move troops and supplies, travel between posts, or head home on leave. Today, visitors can enjoy the park’s 355-acre lake, which is a popular fishing and paddling destination, as well as explore hiking and biking trails.
