José de la Luz Sáenz wrote the only known memoir of a Mexican-American soldier in the Great War. It remains a vivid account of the wartime contributions of Mexican-American servicemen, as well as the prejudice they endured. The diary was originally written in Spanish but has been translated into an English edition.

The museum offers a broad account of South Texas history, including an exhibit on World War I militarization along the border. Visitors will also find a display featuring the war helmet of José de la Luz Sáenz.
