Morton Museum of Cooke County
Lakes Trail Region
Once the Old City Hall, Fire Station and Jail, this 1884 structure was originally two-storied. The fire station—complete with ladder trucks and horse stalls—was downstairs, and the city hall and the jail or “calaboose” was housed upstairs.
The second floor was removed in 1933, and the building was marked for demolition in the 1960s. However, concerned local citizens organized to save the historic structure and create a county museum, today known as the Morton Museum of Cooke County.
