MKT Railroad Right-of-Way
Brazos Trail Region
Main and Washington St.
West, Texas
Development on both sides establishes the railroad right-of-way as a town square of sorts and increases the prominence of the railroad — which is responsible for the town prosperity. Picnic tables and benches even provide a park-like setting. However, the railroad also offers a challenge in the “town square”: when a train pulls through town, one side is cut off from the other.
In addition to the MKT, The Texas Electric Railway, or Interurban, route from Dallas to Waco afforded residents easy access to amenities found in larger cities. Those lines can still be seen paralleling the railroad tracks.
