The springs were occupied for thousands of years before the area became known as Aquarena Springs, a 1926 watery entertainment center that featured the “Aquamaids” and Ralph the Swimming Pig. Over 12,000 years of archeological data has revealed that the springs is one of the oldest continually inhabited sites in North America.

The Meadows Center is now a nationally recognized environmental research center that uses its natural setting as a classroom and laboratory to emphasize the importance of water in Texas and the fragile ecosystem of the Edward’s Aquifer. See it yourself from a glass-bottom boat or kayak tour.
