Lake Livingston State Park
El Camino Real de los Tejas passed near what is now Lake Livingston State Park, making the area a critical route for both civilian and military travel. Buffalo Soldiers traveled these important routes, and their presence would have been a common sight as they moved between posts, performed escort duties, or traveled on leave. The military's use of these historic trails for movement helped to solidify their importance as statewide infrastructure. Today you can follow the footsteps of the soldiers on the miles of trails for hiking and mountain biking at Lake Livingston State Park, or enjoy the massive Lake Livingston, where visitors can fish, boat, and swim.
