Lake Corpus Christi State Park
The South Texas lands along the Nueces River saw important work by Buffalo Soldiers in the late 19th century, especially during and following Reconstruction. While not a major battleground, soldiers patrolled here to protect settlements, mail routes, and growing ranches from outlaws and cattle rustlers in the Nueces Strip. When you enjoy the park today, you're in an area where these soldiers helped bring law and order to this historically complex part of South Texas. Lake Corpus Christi State Park features a placid lake amid one of the last remaining stands of South Texas brush county and offers a variety of outdoor recreation from boating to hiking.
