Lake Arrowhead State Park
Lakes Trail Region
The North Texas prairie around today's Lake Arrowhead State Park saw plenty of action from Buffalo Soldiers, especially the 10th Cavalry from Fort Sill and Fort Richardson, during the late 1800s Indian Wars. They were busy patrolling the Red River border, protecting settlers and cattle drives from Kiowa and Comanche raids. They also took part in campaigns like the Red River War which helped secure this restless frontier. While you are enjoying the miles of multiuse nature trails or 16,200-acre lake, think of the troopers who fought for peace on these very plains.
