La Posada Hotel, located on the foundation of the Casa Consistorial, a government building dating back to the Spanish Colonial period and demolished in 1916, represents a very early example of adaptive reuse. The front public portion of the hotel consists of parts of the 1916 Laredo High School building, which served the school district until the mid-1930s, constructed over the older building sites. Other parts of the complex are located in what were adjacent residential structures that date from the 1800s. Today the luxury boutique hotel anchors the historic downtown Laredo district.
