Joe's Bakery & Coffee Shop
Joe Avila's family has been serving its loyal customers for over 75 years. It has become a staple in East Austin since the family business began in 1935.
The original business was La Oriental Grocery & Bakery and was operated by Joe’s mother and stepfather, Sophia and Florentino De La O. In 1962, Sophia sold the business to Joe, who had learned the business under Florentino. The business saw various locations over the years, but has always been run by family members. In 2010 Joe L. Avila passed away of lung cancer, which was a tremendous loss for the family and the community. Joe's children took on management of the business in the late 1990s and continue to run it today.
Breakfast is served all day at Joe's Bakery & Coffee Shop, but diners also love the tacos, enchiladas, caldos, and other traditional Mexican fare found on the menu. But whatever you do, do not pass up the delicious baked goods!
