DISCOVERING YOUR CULTURAL HERITAGE IN TEXAS
Want to discover a little bit more about your cultural heritage in Texas than perhaps you already know? Visit the Institute of Texan Culture in San Antonio and you just might. Immigrants from around the world settled in Texas (and the territory that would eventually become Texas) throughout the 18th and 19th centuries including, quite possibly, members of your own ancestry. Is your cultural background American Indian, Scottish, Czech, Hispanic, or Chinese? What about German, Wendish, Jewish, African American, or Greek? The Institute explores the dozens of heritage lines that comprised the Texas culture we, and the world, recognizes today with engaging exhibits including artifacts and documents, programs, and events that help explain what has made the Texan cultural heritage so special. Built for Hemisfair ‘68, the 1968 San Antonio world’s fair, the Institute strives to engage the community in awareness and appreciation of Texas and the Texan legacy. The Institute is a component of the University of Texas at San Antonio and is located on the University’s Hemisfair Park campus in downtown, just a short walk from both the Alamo and the River Walk.
