Honey Creek State Natural Area
Honey Creek State Natural Area is an unspoiled landscape next to Guadalupe River State Park. It’s an example of the country where Buffalo Soldiers, like the 9th Cavalry and the Seminole Negro Indian Scouts, patrolled in the late 1800s. Though not a battle site, this area benefited from the 9th Cavalry's patrols out of regional forts, as they protected settlements and travel routes through the Guadalupe River area. Today you can appreciate the security these soldiers provided for such sanctuaries. Reserve a two-mile hiking tour of the natural area to learn about the history, geology, plants, and animals of this special place.
